Cruise Control Diagnostic System Check: 2002

  1. Install scan tool to DLC connector. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Attempt to establish communication with PCM. If scan tool communicates with PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with PCM, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  3. Attempt to establish communication with the 4WAL 3 Sensor (EBCM). If scan tool communicates with EBCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with EBCM, see TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EBCM under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  4. Select PCM display DTCs function on scan tool for the 4WAL 3 sensor (EBCM) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs go to SYSTEM TESTS 
  5. If scan does not display any DTCs that begin with a "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with a "U", see TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE and TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EBCM under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  6. If scan tool displays DTC P0562, P0563, P1637, or P1638, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) LIST in ENGINE ELECTRICAL article.
