Steering Column System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC located under steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Attempt to establish communication with Seat Control Module (SCM), Body Control Module (BCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with these modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with these modules, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select SCM, BCM and PCM display DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool displays DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTCs, go to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CORVETTE article and diagnose by symptom.
  4. Check for communication DTCs. These DTCs will begin with "U". If no "U" DTCs exist, go to next step. If any "U" DTC exists, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool displays DTC B0605, go to DTC B0605: BCM INTERNAL MEMORY MALFUNCTION  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If scan tool does not display B0605, go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays P0562 or P0563, see GENERATORS & REGULATORS - CORVETTE article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not displays these DTCs, go to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CORVETTE article and diagnose by DTC.
