Skip Shift System Diagnostic System Check
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Attempt to establish communication with Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with PCM, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select PCM DISPLAY DTCs function. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair skip shift system by symptom. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1637, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1637, repair generator as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- If scan tool displays any DTCs beginning with "P", perform appropriate test for DTC retrieved. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. If scan tool does not display any DTCs other than P0801, P0803 and P0804, diagnosed electronic controls by symptom. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS.
