Park Lock Cable
NOTE:
Ignition must be in RUN position when park lock cable is removed from or inserted into ignition switch inhibitor.
- Remove center console. See CENTER CONSOLE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Place gearshift lever in Park position. Unlock park lock cable adjuster at base of gearshift lever. See Fig 1
. Turn ignition to RUN position to energize A/T shift lock solenoid. Compress adjuster body fully and release to ensure solenoid is fully activated. Lock park lock cable adjuster. Turn ignition to OFF-LOCK position. Recheck shift interlock system. If system does not operate as specified, repeat adjustment procedure.NOTE: There must be no gap between the metal terminal stop and the protruding end of the White plastic collar. If a gap exists between the terminal stop and collar, adjust the position of the park lock cable.
- The White plastic collar must be flush or recessed about 1.0 mm (0.04") within the ignition park lock housing. If the White plastic collar is not in the proper location, adjust the position of the park lock cable. Ensure the terminal stop on the column end of the park/lock cable is touching the White collar that protrudes from the ignition switch.
- Turn the column lock cylinder to the LOCK position. Place the floor shift lever into Park. Verify the correct position of the terminal stop. Ensure the White plastic collar travel does not exceed 1.5 mm (0.06"). In order to inspect the White plastic collar travel, complete the following steps: ensure the column lock cylinder remains in the Lock position. Ensure the floor shift lever remains in Park. Gently depress the park/lock button on the floor shift lever until resistance is felt. Ensure the White plastic collar travels no more than 1.5 mm (0.06"). The floor shift lever must remain in Park.
- With the column lock cylinder on, verify proper movement of the floor shift lever through all gear selections. While moving the floor shift lever through all drive gears, verify the column lock cylinder cannot be turned to the LOCK position. Ensure the key can be removed with the column lock cylinder in the LOCK position and the floor shift lever in the PARK position.
