Engine Cooling Diagnostic System Check

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST B: SCAN TOOL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to communicate with PCM. If scan tool communicates with PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with VIU, see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select PCM display DTCs function on scan tool If DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs are not retrieved, repair by symptom.
  4. If scan tool displays DTCs which begin with "U", see TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS. If any other DTCs are displayed, repair as directed. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
