Test C: Charge Indicator Light Inoperative
- If engine electrical diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was not performed, go to ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe charge indicator light on Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If charge indicator light does not illuminate during bulb check, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates during bulb check, problem may be intermittent. Check wiring and connections, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect generator 4-pin harness connector. Connect a fused (3-amp) jumper wire between ground and generator harness connector terminal "B" (Brown wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If charge indicator remains Off, go to next step. If charge indicator illuminates, go to step 5 .
- Test charge indicator control circuit for open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 7 . If no problem exists, go to step 6 .
- Check for poor connections in generator harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 7 . If no problem exists, go to TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST .
- Replace PCM. After replacement, reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If condition was found and corrected, system is okay. If condition was not found, go to step 3 .
