Speedometer Inoperative
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 16-pin connector. Using a DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between instrument cluster Gray 16-pin connector terminal No. 5 (White wire) and ground. See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check for open circuit in White wire between instrument cluster Gray 16-pin connector terminal No. 5 and junction block White 11-pin connector terminal No. 9. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Also see WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary.
- Disconnect instrument cluster White 13-pin connector. Using a DVOM, check for continuity on Black/Yellow wire between instrument cluster White 13-pin connector terminal No. 2, connectors C207 and C212, and ground connection G103. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between instrument cluster White 13-pin connector terminal No. 2 and ground connection G103.
- Check instrument cluster printed circuit for bad connections, cracks or other damage. Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit as necessary. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, check for open circuit in Blue/Yellow wire between instrument cluster Gray 16-pin connector terminal No. 9 and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) connector terminal No. 1, located in left side of transmission in adapter case. Repair wiring as necessary. If Blue/Yellow wire is okay, replace speedometer.
