Malfunction Indicator Light

NOTE: The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may also be known as CHECK ENGINE or SERVICE ENGINE SOON light.

All vehicles are equipped with a MIL located on instrument panel. Light will glow when ignition switch is turned to ON position and engine is not running as a bulb check. Light should turn off when engine is started. When MIL remains on or flashes with engine running, self-diagnostic system has detected a problem. If problem goes away, light will turn off after 10 seconds, but a trouble code will remain stored in PCM memory. For additional information, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
