DTC B2558: Interior Light Control Output Short To Battery: Testing

  1. If Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Open left door. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located to left of steering column. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select INTERIOR LIGHT OUTPUT, then LAMP STATUS. If status is ON, go to next step. If status is not ON, go to step  4 .
  3. Close left door. Check LAMP STATUS. If status does not change, go to next step. If status changes, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  4. Ensure left door is open. Turn ignition off. Disconnect left and right courtesy lights and dome light. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select INTERIOR LIGHT OUTPUT, then LAMP STATUS. If status is ON, go to next step. If status is not ON, go to step  7 .
  5. Check for short to power on White wire between lights and BCM connector C3 terminal A11. See Figure . See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is shorted to power, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check BCM and harness connector terminals for damage and poor connections. If no problem is found, go to step  8 . If connections are poor, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Check interior light sockets and harness connector terminals for damage and poor connections. If no problem is found, go to step  9 . If connections are poor, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Replace appropriate bulb(s). Go to next step.
  10. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle under conditions that set DTC. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
