Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: When using scan tool for diagnostics, ABS/TCS system is disabled by EBCM. ANTI-LOCK indicator will illuminate indicating only normal power assist braking is available. After diagnostics have been completed, disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC) and turn ignition off for a least 10 seconds before road testing. This procedure is done to reset EBCM.

If multiple DTCs are displayed, begin diagnosis with DTC that is displayed first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table. Diagnose all codes in the order displayed by scan tool.

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool, does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE IN DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communications with PCM and BCM. If scan tool communicates with PCM and BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with PCM and BCM, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE IN DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. Select ABS control module display DTC function on scan tool. If scan tool display any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, go to SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  .
  4. If scan tool display any "U" type DTCs, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE IN DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS  under SYMPTOM TESTS. If scan tool displays other types of DTC, diagnose affected DTC(s).
