Cruise Control System: Operation: Notes

The cruise control actuator monitors vehicle speed through the vehicle speed sensor and provides necessary commands to maintain, or change vehicle speed, in response to inputs from cruise control mode switch. When cruise control servo receives a cruise control command, DC servo inside actuator turns a worm gear. An accelerator cable is moved which adjusts throttle angle. A magnetic clutch mechanically connects DC servo and worm gear. Cruise control operation is disengaged when one or more of the cancel switches close. Upon receiving a cancel signal, the actuator de-energizes magnetic clutch inside. This disconnects DC servo and allows throttle to return to idle position.
