System Check

  1. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Check for cruise control related DTCs in PCM. If no DTCs are stored, go to next step. If any cruise control related DTCs are stored in PCM, diagnose engine control system as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Drive vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Turn cruise control main switch on. Press SET/COAST switch once and release. Remove foot from accelerator pedal. Vehicle should maintain set speed. If cruise control operates as specified, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate as specified, go to CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME, ACCELERATE, TAP-UP OR TAP-DOWN  under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found after performing system test, diagnose using test for DTC P0568. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Press and hold SET/COAST switch until vehicle speed decreases 4-5 MPH. Release SET/COAST switch. Vehicle should decelerate and maintain new set speed.
  4. Hold slider switch in R/A position until vehicle speed increases 4-5 MPH. Release slider switch. Vehicle should accelerate and maintain new set speed. If cruise control operates as specified, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate as specified, go to CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME, ACCELERATE, TAP-UP OR TAP-DOWN  under SYSTEM TESTS. If no problem is found after performing system test, diagnose using test for DTC P0567. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  5. Depress brake pedal and release. Cruise control system should disengage. If cruise control operates as specified, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate as specified, diagnose using test for DTC P0571 (M/T equipped models) or DTC P0567 (A/T equipped models). See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  6. Press R/A switch once and release. Vehicle should accelerate and maintain previously set speed.
  7. Press R/A switch once and release (Tap-up). Vehicle speed should increase by one MPH.
  8. Press SET/COAST switch once and release (Tap-down). Vehicle speed should decrease by one MPH.
  9. Turn cruise control main switch off. Cruise control system should disengage, and set speed should be erased from memory. If cruise control operates as specified, system is okay at this time. If cruise control does not operate as specified, replace multifunction lever. See CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONAL SWITCHES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
