DTC 3: Courtesy Lights Ground Control Circuit (Short To Battery): Description

Body Control Module (BCM) controls interior illumination. When interior lights override switch is on, BCM will turn on interior courtesy lights by grounding circuit No. 690 (Gray/Black wire) about 22-44 seconds when:

BCM will turn off interior courtesy lights when all doors are closed and instrument panel dimmer switch is off.

Whenever a door or liftgate is open, door lock ajar switch closes and sends a ground signal to BCM through circuit No. 159 (Tan wire) for driver's door, circuit No. 49 (Dark Blue wire) for right door and rear liftgate, and circuit No. 54 (Orange wire) for sliding door. BCM then sends a ground signal through circuit No. 690 (Gray/Black wire) to courtesy lights. BCM uses voltage from circuit No. 240 (Orange wire) to power courtesy lights through circuits No. 1393 (Dark Blue wire) and No. 398 (Purple wire). BCM monitors voltage through circuit No. 690 for inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection. If inadvertent load protection is active (circuits No. 1393 and 398 are open), BCM will open circuit No. 690.

DTC 3 will set when BCM detects a short to battery in circuit No. 690 (Gray/Black wire) between BCM connector C1 and courtesy lights. Interior courtesy lights will not turn on. To clear DTC 3, see CLEARING DTCS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

NOTE: If DTC 3 is intermittent, wiggle wires while performing the following test.
