Tachometer Does Not Operate Properly

Using scan tool, monitor normal mode communication between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and instrument cluster. If engine speed signal is correct, replace instrument cluster. See procedures in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If engine speed signal is incorrect, locate and repair problem in PCM system. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section:
