Air Conditioning Does Not Function

  1. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn A/C system on. Using scan tool, enter SDL monitor mode. Monitor communication between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and instrument cluster. If A/C request display is NO, go to next step. If A/C request is YES, locate and repair problem in PCM system. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section:
  2. Using scan tool, monitor instrument cluster data list. If A/C request display is NO, go to next step. If A/C request is YES, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  3. Using test light, backprobe between A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly Black connector C1 (6-pin or 8-pin), terminal "C" (Light Green wire) and ground. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Light Green wire between instrument cluster and A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly. Recheck system operation.
  4. Disconnect A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly connector Black connector C1 (6-pin or 8-pin). Connect a test light between A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly harness connector C1, terminal "F" (Brown wire) and ground. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly. See A/C-HEATER SYSTEM article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section.
  5. Check for open in Brown wire between A/C-heater/rear defogger assembly and blower motor relay. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, locate and repair problem in HVAC system. See A/C-HEATER SYSTEM article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT section.
