DRL Indicator Operates Improperly
NOTE:
This test applies only to DRL indicator. If DRL do not operate properly, locate and repair problem in DRL system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Release parking brake. Start engine. Move gear selector to any position except Park. Turn headlights off. If DRL indicator illuminates, go to next step. If DRL indicator does not illuminate, go to step 5).
- Turn headlights on. If DRL indicator does not turn off in both low and high beam operation, go to next step. If DRL indicator turns off in both low and high beam operation, system is operating normally.
- Connect scan tool. Ensure parking brake is released, engine is running, gear selector is not in Park and headlights are off. Using scan tool, monitor instrument cluster data list. If both high and low beam inputs do not display battery voltage when turned on, go to next step. If both high and low beam inputs display battery voltage when turned on, replace instrument cluster. See procedures in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Check for open in Pink or Dark Blue wire between instrument cluster and headlight system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Connect scan tool. Ensure parking brake is released, engine is running, gear selector is not in Park and headlights are off. Using scan tool, monitor DRL relay in instrument cluster data list. If DRL relay is not enabled, go to next step. If DRL relay is enabled, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Using scan tool, monitor instrument cluster data list. If either high or low beam input displays battery voltage, go to next step. If high and low beam inputs do not display battery voltage, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Check for short to voltage in Pink or Dark Blue wire between instrument cluster and headlight system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
