Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform Powertrain ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK. See the BASIC TESTING article. Then go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. If scan tool displays a TDC offset greater than 2.5 or less than -2.5, go to step 4). If scan tool does not display a TDC offset greater than 2.5 or less than -2.5, go to next step.
  3. DTC is intermittent. If no additional DTCs are set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS. If any additional DTCs are set, go to applicable DTC test.
  4. Check if any other DTCs are set. If any other DTCs are set, go to appropriate DTC. If any other DTCs are not set, go to next step.
  5. Clear all DTCs and reset injection timing until TDC offset is -.25 to -.75. See the ADJUSTMENTS article. If timing is -.25 to -.75, go to step 7). If timing is not -.25 to -.75, go to next step.
  6. Check crankshaft position sensor for proper installation or loose or broken sensor mounting tab. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8). If no repairs are required, go to next step.
  7. Replace PCM. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P1214. Operate vehicle within the conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this test ran and passed, repeat step 2).
  9. Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
