DTC 76: Lateral Accelerometer Signal Out Of Range: Notes

Lateral accelerometer circuit provides signal reflecting severity of vehicle turn (yaw forces on vehicle) to EBTCM. Information is used by EBTCM to modify control of rear wheel brakes. For system schematic, see Figure

DTC 76 will be set when accelerometer signal is more than .3G for 7.5 minutes or more, or more than .6G for one minute or more. SERVICE ABS and SERVICE ASR indicators will illuminate and ABS and TCS will be disabled.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to circled numbers on diagnostic chart.

  1. Checks if another ABS/TCS problem is causing DTC 76 to set.
  2. Checks for correct accelerometer signal voltage in a no-turn (zero G force) condition.
  3. Checks for correct accelerometer signal voltage at full right-hand turn. Full right-hand turn is simulated by exposing left side of accelerometer to gravity force of one G (standing accelerometer on left side).
  4. Repairs other ABS/TCS DTC problems that may affect DTC 76, then checks for DTC reset.
  5. Checks connectors and wiring for intermittents and/or shorts.
  6. Checks for correct accelerometer signal voltage at full left-hand turn. Full left-hand turn is simulated by exposing right side of accelerometer to gravity force of one G (standing accelerometer on right side).
  7. Checks if DTC 76 reset in step 5) is caused by lateral accelerometer. When road testing vehicle, DO NOT make any severe turns that may cause Tech 1 scan tester to trigger DTC because of spiking signal from lateral accelerometer.
  8. Checks for DTC reset during road test. If DTC continues to reset, EBTCM is detecting a fault when one does not exist.
