Section 7 (HVAC System - Automatic): Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Buick Roadmaster. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
All air conditioning and heating functions are controlled automatically by a microprocessor control unit located within the A/C-heater control panel. This control unit receives engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed, engine RPM, A/C clutch status and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the PCM.
The PCM receives diagnostic mode and A/C requests for processing from the control unit. Manual controls allow the driver to select air distribution mode and desired temperature.
The automatic A/C-heater system consists of A/C-heater control panel, blower motor control module, A/C-heater evaporator module, various motors and sensors, and refrigeration system. The system includes self-diagnostic capabilities.
