Brake Indicator Is Inoperative

  1. If brake warning indicator does not light with parking brake engaged, go to next step. If brake warning indicator does not light when ignition switch is cycled from LOCK to RUN position, go to step 3). If brake warning indicator does not light when hydraulic brake system has low brake pressure in front or rear brakes only, go to step 4). If brake warning indicator does not light with neither a BPMV problem nor a low brake pressure in front or rear only, go to step 5). If brake warning indicator is completely inoperative, go to step 7).
  2. Disconnect parking brake warning switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper between parking brake warning switch connector Light Blue wire and ground. If brake warning indicator comes on, check parking brake warning switch adjustment. If brake warning indicator does not come on, repair open circuit in Light Blue wire.
  3. Disconnect Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) connector C2. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper wire between BPMV connector terminal "H" (Purple wire) and ground. If brake warning indicator comes on, see appropriate BRAKES article. If brake warning indicator does not come on, repair open circuit in Purple wire.
  4. Disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper wire between brake pressure warning switch connector terminal "A" (Purple wire) and ground. If brake warning indicator does not come on, repair open circuit in Purple wire. If brake warning indicator does come on, check for open circuit in Black wire. If Black wire is okay, diagnose brake pressure warning switch. See appropriate BRAKES article.
  5. Disconnect BPMV connector C2. Remove diode II in underhood fuse/relay center. Check resistance in Purple wire between BPMV connector terminal "H" and underhood fuse/relay center terminal K1. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open circuit in Purple wire.
  6. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between underhood fuse/relay center terminal L2 (Tan/White wire) and ground. If test light comes on, replace diode II. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Tan/White wire.
  7. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between instrument cluster Pink wire and ground. If test light comes on, repair open circuit in Tan/White wire. If wire is okay, replace instrument panel. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Pink wire.
