Code 03 Or 04, Outside Air Temperature Sensor Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Unplug outside air temperature sensor connector. Outside air temperature sensor is located on center radiator support. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at Light Green/Black wire at outside air temperature sensor connector.
  2. If voltmeter indicates 5 volts, go to next step. If Code 03 was set and voltmeter does not indicate 5 volts, check for short in Light Green/Black wire. If Code 04 was set, check for short to voltage or open circuit in Light Green/Black wire. If wire is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
  3. If voltmeter indicated 5 volts in step 2), measure voltage between Light Green/Black and Yellow wires at sensor connector. If voltmeter does not indicate 5 volts, check and/or repair Yellow wire for an open.
  4. If voltmeter indicated 5 volts in steps 2) and 3), check A/C control unit connectors. Clean or repair connectors as necessary. If connectors are okay, replace outside air temperature sensor.
