Cruise Control Does Not Engage

NOTE: Cruise control will be disabled if stoplights (including center high mounted stoplight) are not operating properly.
  1. Ensure BRAKE and STOP/HAZ fuses are okay. Disconnect cruise control module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check for battery voltage at Brown wire terminal of cruise control module connector.
  2. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire. If battery voltage is present, check for battery voltage between Brown and Black/White wire terminal of cruise control switch connector. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/White wire.
  3. If battery voltage is present, turn cruise control on. Check for battery voltage at Dark Blue wire terminal of cruise control module connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair short to battery in Dark Blue wire. If Dark Blue wire is okay, replace cruise control switch.
  4. Check for battery voltage at Gray/Black wire terminal of cruise control module connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair short to battery in Gray/Black wire. If Gray/Black wire is okay, replace cruise control switch.
  5. Check for battery voltage at Gray wire terminal of cruise control module connector. If battery voltage is present, go to step 7). If battery voltage is not present, check for battery voltage at Brown wire terminal of cruise control switch.
  6. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire. If battery voltage is present, repair open in Gray wire. If Gray wire is okay, replace cruise control switch.
  7. Check for battery voltage at Purple (A/T) or Brown/White (M/T) wire terminal of cruise control module connector. If battery voltage is present, go to step 10). If battery voltage is not present on vehicles with manual transmission, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present on vehicles with automatic transmission go to step 9).
  8. Check for battery voltage at Purple wire terminal of clutch release switch connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair open in Brown/White wire. If Brown/White wire is okay, replace clutch release switch.
  9. Check for battery voltage at Brown wire terminal of brake release switch connector. If battery voltage is present, repair open in Purple wire. If Purple wire is okay, replace brake release switch. if battery voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire.
  10. Check for battery voltage at Dark Blue wire terminal of cruise control module connector while pressing SET/COAST switch. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Dark Blue wire. If Dark Blue wire is okay, replace cruise control switch.
  11. Turn ignition off. Connect cruise control module connector. Disconnect vehicle control module (or vehicle speed sensor buffer) connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at Dark Green/White wire terminal of vehicle control module (or vehicle speed sensor buffer) connector. If voltage is approximately 7 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not approximately 7 volts, repair open or short to ground in Dark Green/White wire. If Dark Green/White wire is okay, replace cruise control module.
  12. Turn ignition off. Connect vehicle control module (or Vehicle speed sensor buffer). Ensure cruise control is off. Set parking brake and start engine. Turn cruise control on, wait at least 3 seconds. Simultaneously press and hold SET/COAST switch, RESUME/ACCEL switch, and brake pedal. After 10 seconds, release brake pedal and check for momentary engine RPM increase.
  13. If engine RPM does not increase, replace cruise control module. If engine RPM increases, check for poor connections at vehicle control module (or vehicle speed sensor buffer). If connections are okay, replace vehicle control module (or vehicle speed sensor buffer).
