Code 68/72 - EMB Circuit Shorted To Battery Or Driver Open: Notes

This test detects short to battery, short in Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) release circuit or an open EMB driver. These faults will not allow EMB to be energized when needed.

Code 68 can set only when left front EMB is commanded on and excessive voltage drop across left front EMB driver is detected. Code will be stored, ABS will be disabled and ABS warning light will illuminate.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. Use only 10-megohm (minimum) DVOM for all voltage and resistance tests.
  1. Determines if fault is still present.
  2. Identifies short to battery in EMB control circuit.
  3. Checks for lower than normal EMB resistance.
  4. Checks for short between EMB battery feed and control circuit.
  5. Ensures malfunction was not due to physical damage to circuitry.
