DTC 65 Adjuster Assembly: Notes

Power and ground are supplied to adjuster assembly which controls engine torque during ASR operation.

DTC 65 will set if circuit No. 650 or No. 561 are both open at the same time or if they are shorted to ground, shorted to battery voltage or shorted to each other. SERVICE ASR indicator light will come on and ASR system will be disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to circled numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Measures resistance in adjuster assembly motor windings. Rotating and releasing adjuster before measuring resistance, allows motor to reach home position.
  2. Checks for poor power feed to EBTCM through circuit No. 1242.
  3. Checks for open in circuits No. 560B and/or No. 560C.
  4. Checks for open in circuits No. 561B and/or No. 561C.
  5. Checks for short between circuits No. 560 and No. 561.
  6. Checks for short to battery voltage in circuit No. 560.
  7. Repeats rotate and release procedure from step 1). Adjuster assembly resistance should be .5-10 ohms at least once after this procedure.
  8. Checks for DTC reset by moving throttle valve position to enable one of the EBTCM's adjuster assembly monitoring systems to check for a DTC reset.
  9. Checks for wiring or connection problem which could cause intermittents and/or shorts. Adjuster assembly requires special wiring repair procedures. See ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY WIRING REPAIR if wiring repairs are needed on adjuster assembly.
  10. Checks for short(s) to battery voltage in circuits No. 561B and/or No. 561C.
  11. Checks for short to ground in circuits No. 560B and/or No. 560C.
  12. Checks for short to ground in circuits No. 561B and/or No. 561C.
  13. Checks for DTC reset after inspecting wiring and adjuster assembly.
  14. Checks for DTC reset by moving throttle valve position to enable one of EBTCM's adjuster assembly monitoring systems to check for a DTC reset.
  15. Checks for EBTCM-switched short to battery voltage. If you have reached step 15) a second time after performing checks for EBTCM-switched faults, EBTCM is likely the cause of DTC reset.
