Volts Or Charge Indicator Test

  1. If light does not activate with ignition on, disconnect electrical connector at alternator. Install jumper wire between Brown wire of electrical connector and ground.
  2. With ignition on, if light fails to activate, check for voltage supply to indicator, open in wire from alternator to indicator or defective printed circuit in instrument cluster. Replace alternator if light activated.
  3. If light is activated with engine running, disconnect electrical connector from alternator with engine running. If light activates, check wire from alternator to indicator or instrument cluster for a short to ground. Replace alternator if light failed to activate.
