Code 32: EGR System Error: Notes
A properly operating EGR will directly affect the air/fuel mixture requirements of the engine. Since the exhaust gas introduced into the airflow is an inert gas (contains little or no oxygen), less fuel is required to maintain a correct air/fuel mixture. If the EGR system were to become inoperative, the inert exhaust gas would be replaced with oxygen and the air/fuel mixture would become leaner. This would be reflected in an increased block learn value. The engine control system operates within 2 block learn cells: a closed throttle cell and an open throttle cell. The block learn value of these 2 cells should be close to the same. The open throttle cell is affected by the operation of a functional EGR system. If the EGR system malfunctions, the open throttle cell block learn would increase, but the block learn for the closed throttle cell would remain unchanged. When the change becomes too great, the ECM will set a Code 32.
