Bleeding Brake System

NOTE: It is not necessary to bleed EHCU during normal brake system bleeding. If EHCU is replaced, it will be necessary to bleed EHCU first.
  1. Install 2 Combination Valve Depressors (J-35856) on High Pressure Accumulator (HPA) bleed valves. See Figure . Install one Combination Valve Depressor (J-35856) on combination bleed valve.
  2. To bleed the EHCU, turn internal bleeder screws 1/4-1/2 turn counterclockwise. See Figure . Open bleeder screws on front of EHCU for 15 seconds. Tighten bleeder screw and release brake pedal. Wait 15 seconds and repeat procedure. After no air is found, tighten internal bleeder screws to 60 INCH lbs. (7 N.m).
CAUTION: If internal bleed screws are left open, hydraulic fluid will by-pass accumulator and hydraulic pressure will be lost.
  3. To bleed mechanical brake system, use same type procedure as a conventional system. Ensure combination valve depressors are used. If manual bleeding, wait 15 seconds between strokes. If pressure bleeding, pressurize brake bleeder to 20-25 psi (kg/cm2 ). Brake bleeding sequence is as follows: right rear, left rear, right front, left front, isolation dump valve. Use DOT 3 brake fluid only.
