Coolant Temperature Gauge Test

  1. Turn ignition on. If coolant gauge does not indicate high, go to next step. If coolant gauge indicates high, remove terminal lead from coolant temperature sending unit. If coolant temperature gauge indicates low, replace coolant temperature gauge sending unit. If coolant temperature gauge does not indicate low, check for short circuit in Dark Green wire. If wire is okay, replace gauge.
  2. Remove terminal lead from coolant temperature sending unit. Turn ignition to RUN position. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between coolant temperature sending unit and ground. If voltage is present, replace sending unit. If voltage is not present, check for open circuit in Dark Green wire between sending unit and instrument cluster connector terminal "A". If wire is okay, replace coolant temperature gauge.
