Distributor Vacuum Advance

  1. Disconnect vacuum hoses from distributor vacuum advance. Using hand held vacuum pump, apply about 15 in. Hg vacuum to each chamber. Make sure breaker plate moves smoothly and diaphragm holds vacuum.
  2. Remove vacuum pump from distributor. Connect an air line and pressure regulator to smaller (outer) chamber. Apply 7.25 psi (50 kPa) to outer chamber.
    CAUTION: Never apply more than 18.85 psi (130 kPa) to vacuum advance unit outer chamber.
  3. Breaker plate should move smoothly and diaphragm should hold pressure. If not, replace vacuum advance unit.
