Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is mounted on throttle body and is directly connected to throttle linkage. It converts throttle position into electrical signals to inform ECM of throttle position, or angle. Signals are sent to ECM when throttle is fully open or at idle. See Fig 1 . The potentiometer prevents loss of power during sudden acceleration/deceleration by signaling the ECU of necessary fuel enrichment requirements. A dashpot mounted on the throttle body is used to prevent abrupt closing throttle valve during sudden deceleration.
