Chart C2D - Stepped Speed Control (SSC) With M/T

SSC is activated on manual transmission cars when engine speed is more than 2500 RPM. This prevents converter overheating on deceleration. Vacuum switch solenoid and fast idle relay are used only on cars with A/C, to energize vacuum switch solenoid, while holding throttle blade open.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. This test checks operation of diaphragm.
  2. This test checks output signal of engine speed module.
  3. This test checks for tach signal at module.
  4. This test checks for 12-volt signal to module from choke heater fuse.
  5. This test checks for good ground at module.
  6. This test checks output signal of fast idle relay.
  7. This test checks for 12-volt signal to relay. If 12 volts was available at module and 12 volts is not available at relay, check for open or bad connections in wiring between relay and module.
  8. This test checks ground wire and connections.
  9. Checks wiring between fast idle relay and fast idle solenoid.
  10. Checks for 12-volt signal to solenoid.
  11. Checks fast idle solenoid ground and wiring.
  12. Go to CHART C2A.
