Carburetor - STROMBERG 2-Bbl: Adjustments
NOTE:
See FLOAT LEVEL and FLOAT DROP in REASSEMBLY for adjustment procedures. For all on-vehicle adjustments not covered in this article, See the appropriate TUNE-UP SERVICE PROCEDURES section.
- Inspect full opening angle of primary throttle valve. Inspect angle of primary throttle valve when throttle lever has been fully opened. Valve angle should be 90. Adjust by bending throttled adjust arm if angle is not correct.
- Inspect full opening angle of secondary throttle valve. Open throttle lever, fully open secondary throttle valve and inspect angle of secondary throttle valve. Valve angle should be 87°. Adjust by bending secondary shaft lever if it is not correct.
- Inspect angle of secondary throttle valve when fully opening primary throttle valve. Valve angle should be 23°. Adjust by bending secondary throttle shaft lever if it not correct.
- Inspection of secondary touch angle. Measure primary throttle valve opening at same time secondary throttle valve starts to open. Clearance should be .23" (5.87mm).Adjust by bending throttle adjusting arm if it is not correct.
- Set choke valve to full open. Slowly open throttle lever while lightly pushing choke valve in closing direction with your fingers and set choke valve to 3rd stage of fast idle cam. Check choke valve clearance. Clearance should be .093"(2.37 mm).
- Remove rivet of auto choke if it is not of prescribed clearance and adjust by bending choke lever in housing. After adjustment always be sure to install choke cover by riveting. Set choke valve to full open.
- Open throttle valve slowly while pushing choke valve lightly in closing direction with your finger and set choke valve to second stage of fast idle cam.
- Check unloader. Inspect clearance of choke valve when primary throttle valve has been fully opened. Clearance should be .071" (1.80 mm). Remove rivet from auto choke and adjust by bending choke lever in housing if it is not correct. After adjustment, always be sure to install choke cover by riveting.
- Apply a vacuum to choke breaker diaphragm unit. Inspect clearance of choke valve hen lightly pushing choke valve to closing side. Clearance should be .0555" (1.35 mm). Adjust by bending choke lever if is not correct.
- Check that TPS bracket screws are tight. Check that there is no play in TPS arm and primary throttle valve arm. Connect an ohmmeter to Green and Black leads of TPS.
- Open throttle lever about 1/3 (no continuity in this case), and gradually close lever. Check that there is continuity when primary slot valve reaches prescribed clearance.
- Clearance is .015" for A/T and .011" for M/T. Adjust by loosening TPS screws if it is not of prescribed angle. After adjustment, perform check again to determine correct clearance.
