Steering Gear: Inspection

  1. Using a dial gauge and 2 "V" blocks, check steering rack for straightness. Inspect steering rack for damaged teeth. If pinion shaft or bearing is worn, replace.
  2. If tie rod assemblies are worn or damaged, replace. Check seal mating surfaces for scoring or pitting. If cylinder or pinion shaft are damaged, replace them.
