Modes Of Operation: Deceleration

When deceleration occurs, the fuel remaining in intake manifold can cause high emissions and backfiring. The ECM looks for changes in throttle position and manifold pressure and reduces the amount of fuel. When deceleration is sudden, the ECM can cut-off fuel delivery for short periods of time.
