Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures: Adjustments: Caster

NOTE: On diesel engine vehicles, remove resonator bracket before adjusting caster and camber. On all models, jounce vehicle several times to settle suspension. Release on down stroke. Check for proper tire pressure, worn steering or suspension components.
  1. Caster can be adjusted by moving the position of upper strut mount assembly forward or backward. Adjust by loosening the 3 nuts on top of mount. The weight of vehicle will normally cause strut assembly to move to full inboard position.
  2. Install Alignment Adjuster Tool (J-29724 or equivalent) by bolting bracket end to fender with original fender bolt. Install turnbuckle hook on upper strut mount assembly. Tighten until proper camber reading is obtained. Tap mount forward with a rubber mallet to adjust caster. Tighten nuts. See Fig 1 .
Fig 1: Caster & Camber Adjustment With shims out or top mount nuts loose, vehicle weight will move control arm or strut to inboard position.
