Rough/Incorrect Idle

  1. Check for binding throttle linkage. Ensure EGR and IAC systems are operating correctly. Check TBI balance and minimum idle speed. Check Park/Neutral switch circuit.
  2. Ensure TPS voltage is stable at idle with throttle closed. Alternator output voltage must be 9-16 volts. If not, repair charging system.
  3. Inspect O2 sensor for silicon contamination from fuel or use of improper RTV sealant. Sensor may have a white powdery coating which results in a false rich-mixture signal to ECM. ECM will in turn reduce fuel delivered to the engine.
