Temperature Dial Calibration

  1. With engine warm and system on and stabilized, disconnect three-way connector from programmer and connect appropriate end of harness adaptor J-23678-77 to programmer and car harness.
  2. Connect the ATC Tester (J-23678) into the opposite end of the adapter harness.
  3. Working through opening in top of glove compartment, disconnect in-car sensor electrical connector and attach harness to double connector (black wires) coming out of adapter harness.
  4. Place the Manual-Automatic switch on the tester to "Manual", and the Temperature Dial Calibrator switch on the tester to "Calibrate". Note the voltmeter reading.
  5. Press the Calibrate button and note the voltmeter reading. Holding button in, rotate temperature dial on control head until voltmeter reading is same as it was originally (as noted in step  4 - button not pressed in).
  6. Temperature dial should be set at 75°F. If not, remove the temperature knob (pull straight out), but do not disturb the knob shaft setting. Reposition the pointer to "75" and push knob back on shaft. If dial cannot be calibrated with this procedure, it is malfunctioning.
  7. Remove test equipment and reconnect all original connections. Make sure in-car sensor aspirator hose is properly attached.
AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL FUNCTIONAL TEST

Control Setting System Should Operate As Follows
"DEF" DIAL @ 85° Air should be delivered out of defroster outlets at a fixed high blower speed. Some floor bleed out of heater.
"BI-LEVEL" DIAL @ 85° Air should be delivered from both the A/C and heater outlets at a reduced blower speed. No air will come out the defroster outlet.
"HI" DIAL @ 65° Air should be delivered out the A/C outlets at a fixed high blower speed and cool to cold temperature. The recirculating air door should open (blower noise increases). Door movement Will be slow because of vacuum delay porous plug.
"AUTO" DIAL @ 85° Blower speeds should drop (Hi-M3-M2-M1-etc). Recirc air door should close (noise level will drop). Discharge air temperature should increase. Depending on the temperature in work area, the air delivery mode should change from the A/C outlets to the heater outlets.
"LO" DIAL @85° Air should be delivered at a fixed low blower speed with immediate turn on regardless of engine coolant temperature.
"ECONOMY" DIAL @ 65° Blower speeds should increase (M1-M2-M3-etc). Depending on the temperature in the work area, the air delivery mode should change from the heater outlets to both heater and A/C outlets or the A/C outlets only. The A/C compressor should not operate.
"OFF" DIAL @65° Air should be discharged out the heater outlet at a fixed low blower speed. No A/C compressor operation. Blower will turn on immediately regardless of engine coolant temperature.
