Installation Procedure

    Steering Column (1) - Install

  2. NOTE:

    Support the steering column while installing the steering column nuts.

  3. Steering Column Nut (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Steering Column Nut (2) - Tighten in sequence [4x] - Fastener Specifications 
  6. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
  7. Align the relationship marks made between the steering column and the upper intermediate steering shaft during removal.

    Fully connect the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) to the steering column.

  9. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) @ Steering Column - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications 
  10. CAUTION:

    The anti-rotation pin must be removed from the steering column before installing the steering wheel. Ensure that the steering wheel bolt is torqued to specification during steering wheel installation. Over torquing the steering wheel bolt can result in damage to the steering column rivets which will disable the telescoping mechanism. If the steering column rivets are damaged, a new steering column must be installed.

  11. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.

    Steering Wheel (2) - Install

  13. Prepare the steering wheel bolt (1) for installation as follows:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  14. Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications 
  15. Connect the electrical connector.

    Connect the electrical connectors.

  17. Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
  18. Steering Wheel Airbag (2) - Install
  19. Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Install the 2 steering wheel airbag access hole covers.

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Instrument panel steering column upper trim cover is removed for graphic clarity.

    Connect the electrical connector (1), if equipped.

    Secure the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) to the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

    Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Deflector (2) - Install

  26. Instrument Panel Tie Bar Brace Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Floor Front Air Outlet Duct - Left Side (1) - Install

    Floor Front Air Outlet Duct Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  29. Connect and position the wiring harness.

    Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1) - Install

    Data Link Connector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

  32. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Instrument Panel Center Trim Pad (1) - Install

  34. Return the steering column to its original position.

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator (1) - Install

  36. Connect the electrical connector.

    Install the tabs into the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (1).

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator Retainer (1) - Install

  39. Instrument Panel Insulator Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  40. Instrument Panel Insulator Nut (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Attach the hood primary latch release cable end retainer to the hood primary latch release cable handle (1).

    Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover - Left Side (1) - Install

    Connect the electrical connector.

  44. Instrument Panel Lower Airbag - Driver Side (2) - Install
  45. Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  46. If equipped, install the fuse for the steering column lock control module. The fuse is found in the instrument panel fuse block and is labeled ESCL. Electrical Center Identification Views
  47. Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
  48. Program the steering column lock control module. Control Module References
  49. Center the steering angle sensor. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
  50. If the battery was disconnected for steering column replacement, wait for all modules to fall asleep. This can be done by closing all vehicle closures (doors, trunk, hood) and waiting for three minutes without actuating any vehicle functions or pushing any buttons.
  51. Perform functionality check of tilt and telescoping features.
