Installation Procedure
- Place the steering gear on a clean, flat surface to allow for easier alignment of the steering gear bushings.
Place a straight edge (1) on the steering gear and align the flats on the steering gear bushings (2) to the straight edge.
- Use a pen to make alignment marks (3) on both of the steering gear bushings and the steering gear housing.
The alignment marks will provide the correct orientation of the bushings during installation.
- The steering gear MUST be kept straight while servicing the gear in a hydraulic press or vise.
- Support the side of the steering gear NOT being serviced with a transmission jack.
- Move the steering gear to a hydraulic press.
Use the CH-21474-13 installer (1) to press the steering gear bushing (2) into the steering gear housing.
Press the bushing in until the outside edge of the flat section of the bushing is flush with the gear housing.
- Repeat the process for the other steering gear bushing.
- The steering gear MUST be kept straight while servicing the gear in a hydraulic press or vise.
- Support the side of the steering gear NOT being serviced with a transmission jack.
- Place the steering gear in a vise.
Position the steering gear bushing support bracket (1) on the steering gear bushings.
- Position the smaller end of the CH-21474-6 installer/remover (2) to support the center of the steering gear bushing.
- Position the smaller end of the CH-21474-13 installer (3) to push on the steering gear bushing bracket.
- The center of the steering gear bushing MUST be supported correctly from the backside when installing the steering gear bushing bracket.
- The proper depth of the steering gear bushing bracket is 2 - 4 mm (0.08 - 0.16 in). If the bracket is pushed any deeper, a puller MAY not be able to be used in the future to remove the bracket.
- Install the steering gear bushing support bracket (1) to a depth of 2 - 4 mm (0.08 - 0.16 in).
- Repeat the process for the other steering gear bushing.

During removal and installation, all EPS components including mechanical and/or electrical is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping or prying on any EPS component may cause internal damage. If damage occurs or a part is dropped, the EPS component must be replaced.
Care must be taken during removal and installation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) components to not hit or break the EPS motor/controller module or module harness connectors. If the EPS motor/controller module or module connectors are damaged, the complete component must be replaced.
