Installation Procedure
- NOTE:
Do not allow the anti-seize lubricant to contact the disc brake pad friction surfaces.
Apply approximately 0.09-0.15 g (0.003-0.005 oz) of anti-seize lubricant to each end of the disc brake pad abutments (1) which contact the brake caliper. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
- Inspect the brake caliper pins and brake pad springs for damage or excessive corrosion and replace, if necessary.
Install the brake pads (1).
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:The brake caliper bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
Install new brake caliper bolts (1) and tighten to 150 N.m (111 lb ft) + 30 degrees.
Install the brake pad spring (1).
Insert the upper brake caliper pin (1) into the caliper housing and through the disc brake pad locating loops.
- Carefully drive the upper brake caliper pin into the brake caliper.
- Ensure the brake caliper pin is fully seated in the brake caliper.
Hold the end of the brake pad spring down and insert the lower brake caliper pin (1) into the caliper housing and through the disc brake pad locating loops.
- Carefully drive the lower brake caliper pin into the brake caliper.
- Ensure the brake caliper pin is fully seated in the brake caliper.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With J64) .
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
- Slowly release the brake pedal.
- Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 13 and 14 until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
- Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the proper level. Refer to Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
- Burnish the brake pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
