Installation Procedure

  1. Position the intermediate steering shaft (2) on the vehicle.

    2. NOTE:

    Install the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear by pushing the shaft downward and forward along the axis of the steering gear shaft.

  2. Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @Steering Gear - Install
    3. NOTE:

    Install the mid intermediate steering shaft to the intermediate steering shaft by pushing the shaft downward and forward along the axis of the intermediate steering shaft.

  3. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @Intermediate Steering Shaft - Install
  4. UNLOCK and turn the steering wheel so the mid intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (2) are accessible from the engine compartment.

    5. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  6. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 36 N.m (27 lb ft)
    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
