System Overview

The Rear Seat Infotainment system is an infotainment system targeted at rear seat occupants using one or more displays and headphones. It is capable of playing Blu-ray movies and DVDs, has a HDMI input and can play video files that are stored on USB drives. Older variants also had a SD card slot and could display pictures. Rear occupants can source front audio sources (ie AM, FM, XM, etc) for playback through their headphones. Rear occupants interact with the system using an infrared remote control.

The Rear Seat Infotainment system can also be used by front seat occupants by interacting with the center stack. Audio generated by the Rear Seat Infotainment system can be routed to the cabin speakers, the Rear Seat Infotainment system can fill the role of a traditional CD player and the Rear Seat Infotainment system can send video content to the front display when the vehicle is in park.

The Rear Seat Infotainment System supports the following video codecs: 3GPP, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.234, H.264, AVCHD, Flash, Windows Media Video, DIVx (versions 3.11, 4, 5 and 6), Xvid, Nero and Real Media.

The Rear Seat Infotainment System supports the following audio codecs: MP3, Windows Media Audio, ACC, ACC+, OGG Vorbis, Waveform (.wav), Audio Interchange File Format and AC-3.
