Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to Brake Dust Warning .

  1. Disable the parking brake cable adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With J64) , Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (With J55) .
  4. Remove the rear disc brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J64) , Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J55) .

  5. Compress the park brake shoe hold down springs (1) and rotate the pins 1/4 turn to remove the hold down springs.
  6. Remove the hold down spring pins.

  7. Remove the park brake shoe upper return spring (1).

  8. Remove the park brake shoe adjuster (1).

  9. Remove the park brake shoe lower return spring (1).
  10. Inspect the park brake hardware for damage or excessive corrosion and replace, if necessary.
