Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the lower control arm.
  2. Connect the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  3. Install the lower control arm mounting bolts.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  4. Install the lower control arm mounting nuts and the washers.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nuts to 145 N.m (107 ft lbs)

  5. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 100 N.m (74 ft lbs).

  6. Install the shock absorber lower retaining nut and bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 80 N.m (59 ft lbs).

  7. Install the wheel drive shaft. Refer to AXLE SHAFTS .
  8. Install the stabilizer link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  9. Install the torsion bar. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  10. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
