Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .
  2. Remove the drive belt from the generator. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Generator and Water Pump in Engine Mechanical - 2.8L (LP1), or Drive Belt Replacement - Generator and Water Pump in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical - 2.8L (LP1), or Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the generator.
  7. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.
  8. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (3) and remove the battery positive lead (2) from the generator.
  9. Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) electrical connector.

  11. Remove the engine mount lower nuts.

  13. Remove the generator lower bolts.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Raise the engine using the support fixture.
  16. Remove the generator upper bolt.
  17. Remove the generator from the engine.
  18. If necessary, remove the generator shield bolts and shield.
