Installation Procedure

    Fig 1: Flat-Head 6-Lobed Socket Tap Screws & Linear Shift Assembly

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using 3 TORX® screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    IMPORTANT: Lubricate all of the moving parts of the linear shift assembly with synthetic grease.
  2. Install the gear shift lever assembly support bracket onto the steering column support assembly.
  3. Screw the 3 TORX® screws into the gear shift lever assembly.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  4. Insert the cam bushing (2) into the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  5. Install the cable shift cam assembly (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  6. Screw the hexagon flange head bolt into the cable shift cam assembly (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 N.m (14 lb ft).

  7. Install the park lock cable assembly onto the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  8. Screw the 3 TORX® screws into the shift gate and park lock cable assembly.

    Tighten:  Tighten the 3 TORX® screws to 6.5 N.m (58 lb in).

  9. Install the shift lever clevis (1) into the support bracket for the gear shift lever assembly.
  10. Install the ball actuator assembly (2) onto the gear shift lever assembly.
  11. Install the hexagon flange head bolt into the gear shift lever assembly.

    Tighten:  Tighten the hexagon flange head bolt to 18 N.m (14 lb ft).

  12. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1) to the lock module assembly in the following way:
    1. Place the steering column lock cylinder set into the off position.
    2. Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
    3. Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
  13. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
    1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not be able to shift out of the park position.
    2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis in the neutral position.
    3. With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF-LOCK position.
    4. Put the shift lever clevis into the park position.
    5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position and then remove the key.
  14. Install the automatic transmission shift lock actuator. Refer to SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID .
  15. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to ACTIVATING SYSTEM in SIR.
