Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering knuckle to the strut end lower ball joint.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  2. Install the strut to the steering knuckle mounting bolts and nuts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the strut to steering knuckle mounting bolts and nuts to 185 N.m (136 lb ft).

  3. Install the lower ball joint retaining nut.

    Important:  Do not back off nut for cotter pin alignment.

  5. Install the outer tie rod (2) to the steering column knuckle (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the lower ball joint retaining nut to 10 N.m (88 lb in) plus an additional 180-300 degrees (3-5 flats). For cotter pin alignment, tighten the nut up to, but do not exceed 60 degrees additional rotation.

  6. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut

    Tighten 

    Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  7. Install the wheel bearing and hub. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Front .
  8. Install the brake rotor. Refer to FRONT BRAKE ROTOR .
  9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Check wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment on page 3-24  in Wheel Alignment.
