Vehicle Theft Deterrent System 30 Minute Relearn Procedure

NOTE: Use this procedure after replacing following components: PASS-key III(R) (PK3) keys, Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) control module and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
NOTE: This procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with option code Z49. Option code Z49 are vehicles equipped with Export Canadian Modif Mandatory Base Equipment. If replacing a vehicle theft deterrent control module with an GM SPO replacement part, perform procedure to setup a new vehicle theft deterrent control module prior to 30-minute relearn procedure.
  1. With a master passkey III key (Black), turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe Security telltale, after approximately 10 minutes telltale will turn off.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, and wait 5 seconds.
  3. NOTE: Vehicle learns key transponder information and/or passwords on ignition switch transition from ignition switch OFF position to ignition switch CRANK position. You must turn ignition off before attempting to start vehicle.
  4. With a Master Passkey III(R) key, start vehicle. Vehicle has now learned key transponder information and PCM has now learned fuel continue password.
  5. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.
