Test C: Cruise Control Inoperative/Malfunctioning

NOTE: To avoid misdiagnosis, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  1. If cruise control system diagnostic check has been performed, go to next step. If cruise control system diagnostic check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Cruise Control Module (CCM) 10-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "F" (Pink wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  40 .
  3. Connect test light between CCM harness connector terminals "F" (Pink wire) and "E" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  41 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure cruise control switch is in OFF position. Using test light connected to ground, individually probe cruise control module harness connector terminals "A" (Gray wire), "B" (Dark Blue wire) and "C" (Gray/Black wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate at any terminals, go to next step. If test light illuminates at any terminal, go to step  18 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn cruise control switch to ON position. Connect test light between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  19 .
  6. Connect test light between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire). Press and hold SET/CST switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  21 .
  7. Connect test light between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "C" (Gray/Black wire). Press and hold RES/ACC switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  22 .
  8. Connect test light between ground and TCC/cruise release switch harness connector terminal "D" (Purple wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  11 .
  9. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control switch 5-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between ground and cruise control switch harness connector terminal "B" (Purple wire). See Fig 1 . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  37 .

  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect TCC/cruise release switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between ground and TCC/cruise release switch harness connector terminal "A" (Pink wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  23 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  39 .
  11. Press brake pedal while observing test light. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  24 .
  12. Connect test light between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "G" (White wire). If test light does not illuminate, leave test light connected and go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  25 .
  13. Press brake pedal while observing test light. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  26 .
  14. Connect test light between battery voltage and CCM harness connector terminal "H" (Dark Green wire). If test light does not illuminate, leave test light connected and go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  28 .
  15. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Command CRUISE DISABLE ON. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  29 .
  16. Measure voltage between ground and CCM harness connector terminal "J" (Light Blue/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  30
  17. Check speedometer for proper operation. If speedometer operates normally, go to step  31 . If speedometer is inoperative or malfunctions, go to ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - SEVILLE article.
  18. Check for short to voltage in wire(s) which caused test light to illuminate in step 4)  . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair appropriate wire(s) as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If all wires are okay, go to step  37 .
  19. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Gray wire between cruise control functional switches harness connector "A" in steering wheel and cruise control module harness connector terminal "A". Check for short to ground in Pink wire between TCC/cruise release switch harness connector terminal "A" and rear fuse block. Repair Gray and/or Pink wire(s) as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Gray and/or Pink wire(s) is okay, go to next step.
  20. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Pink wire between cruise control functional switches harness connector and IGN 1 fuse (10-amp), located in rear fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair Pink wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Pink wire is okay, go to step  37 .
  21. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Dark Blue wire between cruise control functional switches harness connector and CCM harness connector terminal "B". Repair Dark Blue wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Dark Blue wire is okay, go to step  37 .
  22. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Gray/Black wire between cruise control functional switches harness connector and CCM harness connector terminal "C". Repair Gray/Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Gray/Black wire is okay, go to step  37 .
  23. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Purple wire between CCM harness connector terminal "D" and cruise control functional switches harness connector "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair Purple wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Purple wire is okay, go to step  32 .
  24. Check for short to voltage in Purple wire between TCC/cruise release switch harness connector terminal "B" and cruise control functional switches harness connector. Repair Purple wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Purple wire is okay, go to step  32 .
  25. Check for short to voltage in White wire between brakelight switch harness connector terminal "B" and splice pack SP302 harness connector terminal "J" and between splice pack SP302 harness connector terminal "H" and CCM harness connector terminal "G". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If White wire is okay, go to step  33 .
  26. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in White wire between brakelight switch harness connector terminal "B" and splice pack SP302 harness connector terminal "J" and between splice pack SP302 harness connector terminal "H" and CCM harness connector terminal "G". Repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If White wire is okay, go to step  33 .
  27. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between brakelight switch harness connector harness connector terminal "A" and STOP LP fuse (15-amp) in rear fuse block. Repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If White wire is okay, go to step  33 .
  28. Check for short to ground in Dark Green wire between CCM harness connector terminal "H" and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 35. Repair Dark Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Dark Green wire is okay, go to step  36 .
  29. Check for open, high resistance or short to voltage in Dark Green wire between CCM harness connector terminal "H" and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 35. Repair Dark Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Dark Green wire is okay, go to step  36 .
  30. Check for open, high resistance or short to voltage in Light Blue/Black wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "J" and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 24. See Figure and Figure . Repair Light Blue/Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Light Blue/Black wire is okay, go to step  36 .
  31. Check for open or high resistance in Dark Green/White wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal "K" and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 25. See Figure and Figure . Repair Dark Green/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If Dark Green/White wire is okay, go to step  36 .
  32. Check TCC/cruise release switch for proper adjustment. See TCC/CRUISE RELEASE SWITCH  under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust as necessary. If adjustment is okay, go to step  34 .
  33. Check brakelight switch for proper adjustment. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust as necessary. If adjustment is okay, go to step  35 .
  34. Check TCC/cruise release switch harness connector for poor connections or connector damage. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If connections are okay, go to step  42 .
  35. Check brakelight switch harness connector for poor connections or connector damage. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If connections are okay, go to step  43 .
  36. Check PCM harness connectors for poor connections or connector damage. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If connections are okay, go to step  44 .
  37. Check cruise control functional switches harness connector for poor connections or connector damage. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If connections are okay, go to step  45 .
  38. Check CCM harness connector for poor connections or connector damage. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  47 . If connections are okay, go to step  46 .
  39. Repair Pink wire, as necessary, between TCC/cruise release switch harness connector terminal "A" and IGN 1 fuse (10-amp) in rear fuse block. After repair, go to step  47 .
  40. Repair Pink wire, as necessary, between CCM harness connector terminal "F" and CRUISE fuse (10-amp) located in underhood fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, go to step  47 .
  41. Repair Black wire, as necessary, between CCM harness connector terminal "E" and ground. After repair, go to step  47 .
  42. Replace TCC/cruise release switch. See TCC/CRUISE RELEASE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  47 .
  43. Replace brakelight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  47 .
  44. Replace and program PCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article. After repair, go to step  47 .
  45. Replace cruise control functional switches. See CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONAL SWITCHES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  47 .
  46. Replace CCM. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  47. Road test vehicle. Operate cruise control system. If cruise control system operates normally, system is okay at this time. If system is still inoperative or malfunctioning, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
