Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check

  1. Perform battery test and inspection. See BATTERY TESTING & INSPECTION  under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If battery passed test, go to next step. If battery did not pass test, replace battery and go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see BODY CONTROL MODULES - ELDORADO article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with each module on class 2 serial data circuit. If scan tool communicates with all modules, go to next step. If scan tool did not communicate with any module, repair communications concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ELDORADO article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function for each module. Record all DTCs set, the DTC status, and the module that set the DTC. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair starting system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", see BODY CONTROL MODULES - ELDORADO article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool does not display DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1007 or B1009, repair these DTCs first. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ELDORADO article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1007 or B1009, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
